We got a bit of good news this week.
Yankee Magazine’s website, NewEngland.com, added our spalted maple bowl to their holiday gift guide. People around here look forward to that guide every year, so it was good to see our work in the mix.
If you know Yankee, you know the kind of attention they give to this region. They write about small towns, home kitchens, old barns, and the businesses that keep New England interesting. Being included feels a bit like someone saying, we see what you’re doing out there.
The bowl they featured starts the way many of ours do. A fallen tree, usually maple, found not far from here. We bring it in, cut it down, and figure out what shape the wood wants to take. Someone in the shop gets it on the lathe. Bit by bit, the bowl appears. The grain tells its own story, and we try not to get in the way.
No two bowls end up alike. That’s part of the fun for us, and maybe why people come back for another.
The guide itself is worth a look. It highlights all kinds of New England makers — small farms, potters, family-run shops, and folks working out of sheds and studios tucked behind their houses. You might find something you didn’t know you needed.
We’re happy to be a small part of that list this year. You can read more about the feature on our site, and you’ll find the full guide on NewEngland.com.
