Wood Cutting Boards

Wood cutting boards are built to be used. At Spencer Peterman, each one begins as a log of local hardwood, then it’s shaped, sanded, and finished by hand. The board ends up strong enough for the knife, but never loses the marks of the tree it came from.

Over time the surface changes. A cherry board deepens in color, walnut keeps its darker cast, maple sometimes shows pale streaks or odd lines. Even boards cut from the same tree refuse to match — one may run steady and smooth, the other full of character.

Instead of being tucked in a drawer, most cutting boards stay in reach. Bread, fruit, a handful of vegetables — whatever needs chopping, the board is there. Cuts and scratches add up, but with care they become part of the story rather than something to cover.
