Burl is where the tree gets unruly — swirls, birdseye, grain that bends and twists as if it’s still alive. In these bowls, cherry burl is turned smooth inside, but the rim is left wild. The edge rises and falls in its own pattern, following the way the wood grew. No two pieces even come close to being alike.
Medium burl bowls work as accents — fruit, nuts, or just set out to be noticed. Larger sizes take on the role of centerpiece. Sometimes they’re filled with salad or bread, other times they’re left empty because the wood itself does the talking. The warm tone of cherry, combined with the motion of the burl, pulls the eye from every angle.
Each one is made in Gill, Massachusetts, from salvaged cherry burl. Wood that might have been discarded is reclaimed and shaped instead. The inside is sanded, the edge left raw, the whole bowl sealed with a food-safe oil. Nothing added, nothing hidden — just burl wood, kept intact, strong enough to use and bold enough to keep.

Our mineral oil has a beeswax base that adds beauty and protection from everyday wear and tear. Beeswax conditioners help prevent wood from drying out as well as from absorbing too much moisture.
Prolonged exposure to water can cause damage; please do not submerge in water or place in the dishwasher.
Common mistakes include letting old fruit and vegetables rot at the bottom of a bowl (this may stain) or putting wood in the oven.
