Oak is sturdy by nature. Once ebonized, it turns dark as ink, though the grain still cuts through the finish. The rim is left as it grew — uneven, dipping and lifting along the tree’s line. Inside, the wood is smoothed and darkened, so the contrast between edge and interior is immediate. Rugged on the outside, refined within.
The small bowls carry fruit, nuts, or a piece of bread without much ceremony. Medium sizes feel at home on the table for salads or everyday meals. The larger ones lean dramatic — enough room for roasted vegetables, greens for a gathering, or nothing at all but their own shape. Against the black finish, color pops: citrus, herbs, root vegetables.
Every bowl is hand-turned in Gill, Massachusetts, from salvaged oak that might otherwise have been lost. The interiors are sealed with a food-safe oil, meant to withstand daily use. What remains is oak, transformed — part tradition, part experiment, built to last.
